The Mesmer Top Hat pattern is everything you need to make your dream crochet top hat! Highly customizable, this pattern allows you to make your hat as tall as you like and with a brim as wide as you like. ❉ Supplies Needed:
Yarn -
I used Hayfield Bonus Aran with Wool for both colours. I find this is a great thick aran weight yarn, and the 20% wool content adds good stiffness and texture, perfect for this type of project.
Yarn choice is very important for this project. See ‘A note on Yarn Choice' in the pattern for more information on yarn substitutions.
COLOUR 1: Approx. 120g aran/heavier worsted weight yarn. (WHITE on my work.) Equivalent to approx. 252m/276yds.
COLOUR 2: Approx. 120g aran/heavier worsted weight yarn. (BLACK on my work.) Equivalent to approx. 252m/276yds.
Required hooks - 5.5mm and 5mm hooks
Yarn needle
Locking stitch markers (at least two)
Flexible measuring tape
Wire cutters/pliers
6ft/180cm of 1.5mm (16 gauge) crafters/florist wire
❉ Experience Level:
This pattern is likely suitable for confident advanced beginners with experience working with two-colour spirals..
You will need to know basic crochet stitches (including sc, hdc, dc and increase/decrease, front/back post sts), how to work with a crochet pattern, how to read stitch abbreviations using a key and you must be comfortable taking and working from your own measurements or trying on your work as you go.

❉ Sizing:
This pattern includes size adjustments covering the adult size range: head circumference 21-24inches/53.5-61cm in three sizes (small, medium, large).
This pattern is made to suit your own head circumference, meaning that you should try on your work as you go to check the fit. A traditional square gauge is not given because you will be working in rounds with yarn held double, but many sizing checkpoints are given in the initial stages of the pattern.
